As I sat down this morning to write, I started by going through some drafts (maybe I should call them entries?) and most of them were about what ANAK Creates is and Why I started this blog, things like that. I decided that wasn’t what I wanted to share this morning, since there was information in there that I haven’t even announced yet to my channels. So I wanted to shift gears a little bit.
It’s Monday, and normally people seem to dread Mondays. It’s the first day of the week, there’s a whole work week ahead till the next weekend, there’s so much to do, blah blah blah. However, to me, those are also the exact reasons I love Monday so much! It’s a fresh start to the week, there’s so much opportunity, so many things you can do.
I am currently listening to the audio book for “Atomic Habits” which is SUCH an amazing book about how habits are formed, why we have habits, and how to create new good habits and break old bad habits. I think its worth anyone listening to or reading because it really is incredible.
In this book, he talks about associating starting something new, like a habit, to the start of a week or month or year (like, umm.. a Monday!) because its a fresh sense of hope, its the beginning to something new, and gives people that sense of ability to accomplish something. This is essentially the exact mindset you need to have! This is a fresh week, full of opportunity, full of time to do what you’d like, to further your goals, and check things off your list of getting closer to your dreams.
If you are someone who doesn’t really like their job, and has something that they would much rather be doing, then this is a great week to start figuring out how to make those dreams a reality, how to go from the job you don’t love, to something you can’t wait to wake up every morning to do.
We are lucky to be living in a time when almost anything you want to do, whatever you love doing, can somehow be turned into a job. Heck, even sleeping can be a job if you manage to find being a mattress tester!! You could also find another twist to it, and start a YouTube channel where you test mattresses, and help people who are looking for a new mattress make more educated choices!
What I’m saying is, if you don’t love what you do, there’s probably something out there thats right for you. Sure, it’ll take work, and it won’t be an overnight switch, but its out there.
A friend of mine is going through this right now, and trying to work on her new business. She took after my habits a bit (or so I like to think) and started waking up early, and working on her blog for 2 hours every morning before work. She feels so much more motivated to do this, instead of working on it after work when she’s pretty exhausted from the day of doing a job she doesn’t looovveeee, she motivates herself every morning to work on it, working toward her goal of building it up to eventually transition that to her full time job.
Here are a few tips, from my experience, to help you get started:
1. Figure out what you love, your interests, hobbies, things that would make you excited to wake up every morning.
2. Write these down!
3. Look around at things related to that and how people make money from this. Ex. What do you spend money on for this interest? Products, courses, etc., Who are people you follow for this, and how are they making money from this? Where do you learn about it? Are there things that you already do that give you an edge that you could share with others?
4. Write these ideas down, and see what excites you, think big and think outside the box, don’t just think about the one job that seems appealing, thing all around the space you are interested in.
Now once you start writing these ideas down, you can have a possibility of seeing what you’d like to do, and what excites you every morning. Spend even 10 mins thinking about this every morning during your coffee, or before bed while brushing your teeth, just get started, and set that time aside.
I highly recommend checking out “Atomic Habits” to help you shift your routines to help accommodate building up that new interest and possible job. Once you get started, so many thing will become more clear, you just need to GET STARTED.
So this seems like the perfect day to start that list. Get that notepad out, make a home for it where you will see it, and write down one thing you love doing. Thats all it takes every morning to start finding your passions.
Hope you have a great week getting inspired to be happy!
Oh, for those of you who already are doing what you love, fantastic and glad to have you in the club!!
Until new time,
Alex
